Theater artists Lanxing Fu and Violeta Picayo present two new works in development: She Thinks Her Name is Love, a piece exploring possession, desire as a political force, and ambiguous grief; and Love in the Time Of, a piece exploring the intersection between mosquito-borne disease, human migration, the ecological and climate disruptions.

About the Artists:
Lanxing Fu (she/her) is a Chinese-American, multidisciplinary theater artist rooted in social practice. She is a writer, producer, performer, and educator, and Co-Director of HERE Arts Center. She is also former Co-Director and current Board Member of Future River, an interdisciplinary collective creating theater for climate justice. Her work as a writer, performer, and generative artist has been seen throughout NYC in hotel rooms, parks, townhouses, and spaces such as The Public Theater, LaMaMa ETC, Brick Theater, LaGuardia PAC, and Baryshnikov Arts Center, and developed with institutions nationally and internationally. Previously, she was Producing Associate with SITI Company, guest lecturer at Skidmore College and guest director at Pace University. She has been a speaker and facilitator with Theatre Communications Group, The New School, Virginia Tech, Columbia University, and more. Her writing on theater, climate arts, and intersectional justice have been published across a variety of platforms.
Violeta Picayo is a bilingual Cuban-American director/choreographer and actor. She makes theater to ask questions together, and create spaces where wondering is a full-body activity. Violeta has directed world premiere productions including Helen. by Caitlin George (La Mama, SuperGeographics, En Garde Arts), and The Strangers Came Today by Emily Zemba (Society @ New Ohio).
She believes the imagination is our greatest tool for compassion and social change, and the theater is an essential place to practice this both as audience and artist. Violeta has worked at NYC venues including BAM, La Mama, The Public, Second Stage, Gym at Judson; regionally throughout the US at the American Repertory Theater, Portland Center Stage, the Fisher Center, City Theatre; and internationally in Argentina, Chile, England, Greece, India, Scotland.
Violeta is a company member of The SuperGeographics, and an associate artist of the SITI Company. She is a proud graduate of Vassar College, the National Theater Institute, and SITI Company’s Conservatory.
